About

Hello everyone,

My name is Marieke Bierhoff and I’m a medical doctor from the Netherlands specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases. This basically means that I treat patients with all kinds of diseases that are caused by an infectious agent like, for example, a virus (e.g. HIV), a bacteria (e.g. Salmonella), a parasite (e.g. Malaria) or a fungus (e.g. Aspergillus). For the past years I’ve been working on improving health in developing countries, first in Tanzania, now on the Myanmar-Thai border.

This blog is to inform you, in an easy accessible way, about infectious diseases in general and sometimes I’ll tell you about my personal experiences and encounters.

I hope you enjoy this blog which I’m writing with the help of Tom Gibcus. If you have any suggestions on topics or if you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Cheers, Marieke
